On Saturday, January 20th, William Rodriguez and Carlos Galindo represented the Snyder High School band at the annual ATSSB All-Region Band concert. Both students were selected to perform with the Symphonic Band based on an audition held in December. #snydertigers

It's the 100th Day of School and the STEAM Lab students are counting bottle caps in groups of 100 for their "Caps for Life" campaign.  Classes are competing against each other to see which class can count the most in 25 minutes.  We encourage anyone that would like to donate to this cause to drop your plastic bottle caps off at Snyder Intermediate, City Hall, or Scurry County library.  To date they have collected enough caps for 75 cancer treatmants for children.  

During the afternoon route, the driver of Bus 11 overheard a student make a concerning statement to another student. They immediately informed the school resource officer and administration, and the bus stopped at the intermediate school. Two students were interviewed and exited the bus. Their parents were notified of the situation. The rest of the students are safe and on their way home.

Students, teachers, and families should report any possible threat or concern to the right authorities. We appreciate the students and the bus driver who reported the situation promptly, enabling the authorities to respond quickly.

How to Report a Concern
If you observe any suspicious activity or have any concerns, report them immediately to the school administration or the police. For non-urgent concerns, you may use the “See Something, Say Something” form, which you can find at www.snyderisd.net/safety.

Yesterday, Snyder High School had the opportunity to host a luncheon for SISD School Board Members as a token of appreciation. Culinary students prepared a menu of Creamy Tuscan Chicken with Homemade Pasta, Mediterranean Greek Salad, Kelton's Lemon Cake (a.k.a. Lauren's Luscious Lemon Cake), Tea, & Lemon Water. Everyone was served by NHS members. Education and Training students wrote a book about the School Board Members, made table decorations, and created a Photo Booth. Evergreen - SISD Research and Retail Greenhouse provided plants for each member to take home, along with a personalized wooden plaque created by alumni with the assistance of our Construction and Art students.

This team is the only one that reports at 5:15 am twice a week, even in the dark and cold and is asked to train again at 4 pm after school without complaining. Last week, we celebrated Ava Aviles' decision to continue her education and athletic career at Howard Payne University. Here is what Coach Cummings had to say at the ceremony, "Ava is a 4-year Varsity Starter for the Snyder Lady Tigers Softball Program. Her passion for the sport of softball is undeniable not only in her dedication to her own performance, but also in her desire to teach, coach, and encourage those around her, especially the young girls involved in the Snyder Fastpitch League. Even when she’s not in season, she’s often found at the softball fields volunteering during fastpitch league or coaching the next generation on pitching and all things softball. Ava is a disciplined leader and a talented player who continues to work on her own personal development by attending camps, workshops, and working with various coaches on different aspects of her game. I say all of this not just to brag on what Ava does outside of the Lady Tigers softball program, but to show all of you here what it takes to be an elite player of the Lady Tigers, of the Snyder league, of our district, and within our region. The achievements that Ava has stacked up over the years did not come easily. They took a lot of focus, dedication, and determination on her part. She sacrificed free time to put in the work and Ava, I am so proud of you and your work ethic."

Coach Wood said, “Easton naturally moves into a leadership position every time he is a part of because he is driven to be excellent. He is highly regarded by the administration and his peers. He also volunteers his time and runs a small lawn business with his brother. He has strong moral character and demonstrates integrity, having a fun-loving personality and being a fierce competitor. He has always had that correct amount of “swag” that the best leaders often possess. I coach with his dad, who is also his head baseball coach, so it has been extremely special to watch their bond and experiences throughout his career and successes. Love ya E. Proud of you!”

JONATHAN BARROW - Passionate Fan Award
Coach Wood said, “Jonathan Barrow is wheelchair-bound due to cerebral palsy. His parents, Suzanne and Johnny, take care of him every day, and they are the sweetest people you will ever meet. Jonathan has always done a "coach's show" on Snyder Tiger Gameday mornings. When I arrived in Snyder a few years back, the radio station had just lost its funding for this, so we thought of a way to keep it going, and we have since done it on Facebook Live every Friday of the season at 9 am - "Gameday FB Live with Jonathan Barrow". He adores it, and looks forward to it all week. So do I. Suzanne hosts it for us, and Jonathan always loves the end when I get their trivia question wrong. He is sure to give us a good laugh. He has even scored a touchdown for the Tigers a couple of times. We all call Johnathan “Snyder's Number 1 Fan.” He is a member of the Lion's Club and an active member at his church every Wednesday and Sunday. You won’t find a person with a bigger faith. He loves big and puts happiness into perspective whenever you think you deserve a pity party. His motto in life is: I have cerebral palsy, what is your problem? He is one of my best friends; love ya, buddy!”
