This afternoon, Snyder Junior High Administration received information about a threat from a student (not associated with Monday’s incident). Students were discussing yesterday’s events, and a student allegedly made a threatening statement. Police responded immediately. The student was searched, and no weapons were found. After questioning, no intent to harm students was discovered. All students are safe, and the issue has been addressed. We ask all parents and guardians to remind their children that comments which may seem like harmless jokes, sarcastic remarks, or statements made out of frustration can trigger serious responses from school officials and law enforcement. Such comments can lead to disciplinary action and even criminal charges. In light of recent events nationwide, both the district and law enforcement maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward threats or any joking about violence. It’s important to have a conversation with your children about the seriousness of making remarks related to violence at school and the potential consequences of such behavior. We are grateful to the student(s) who brought this concern to our attention. If you see or hear anything suspicious or dangerous, please report it immediately to the school administration or contact 911. For non-urgent concerns, you can submit a report using the “See Something, Say Something” form available at www.snyderisd.net/safety. Together, we can continue to foster a safe and supportive learning environment while helping our students grow into responsible future leaders.

UPDATE: 9/10/24, 6:35 AM
Overnight developments brought to the attention of school administration concerning messages shared on TikTok warranted immediate response and additional investigation. This led to a response from the Snyder Police Department and contact with the parent/guardian and student involved.

While we cannot prevent us from discussing the discipline of specific individuals, we want to assure our community that any student found responsible for making threats of violence will face serious consequences in accordance with district policy and applicable law.

Safety remains our top priority, and we will continue to work with law enforcement and take all necessary measures to protect our students and staff. Again, we appreciate the collaboration from our community in reporting any suspicious or concerning behavior. If you witness or hear about suspicious or dangerous behavior, please report it immediately to school administration or call 911. For non-urgent concerns, you can also submit a report using the “See Something, Say Something” form available at www.snyderisd.net/safety.

ORIGINAL POST: Snyder Junior High School administration was alerted to information circulating that a student intended to bring a weapon to the junior high campus. In response, campus administrators, the school counselor, and the Snyder Police Department immediately launched a thorough investigation. After careful review, it was determined that this was not a credible threat. Per our request, there will be an increased police presence on the junior high campus tomorrow as an additional precaution.

Ensuring the safety of our school community is a shared responsibility. We rely on students, staff, and families to report any potential threats or concerns to the appropriate authorities. We are grateful for the individuals who took swift action by notifying us, which allowed us to promptly address the situation.

If you witness or hear about suspicious or dangerous behavior, please report it immediately to school administration or call 911. For non-urgent concerns, you can also submit a report using the “See Something, Say Something” form available at www.snyderisd.net/safety. Please report any information related to weapons, threats, fights, drugs, self-harm, suicide, harassment, bullying, or any other concerning behavior, whether shared in person or online.
